Lake House - Cursive is like a secret code for only your grandparents to understand. It’s kinda like that invisible writing we did as kids with lemon juice. Only visible if you heat the “hidden” message over a candle.
My private thoughts are locked away in my journals, dating back to the 1960s. Safely ensconced in a “code” that few can read.
Someday, long after this old man exhales for the last time, a future great-grandchild will be faced with the dilemma of either learning to read cursive or just burning bookshelves full of tattered journals. It will be their call. Either way, they will be right. Learn what it was like in the mind of an ancient, or let those memories go. Set free!
Or they could pass the books on to the next generation to ponder.
I have my grandfather’s journals. Entries were brief, very much like the man himself. Straight and to the point in conversation. His speech was right out of the 1880s. He was quiet and strong. The way men were supposed to be. His journals will find their way to my grandchildren. There’s a history lesson to be had in them.
Wellness Break - Le Moyne is on a short break from classes. We don’t celebrate Columbus Day. We honor our Indigenous People, on whose land we now live. Sending our students home for a short visit is a good idea at the halfway point of the semester. Like me, they will probably use the time to catch up a little. As soon as we get back on Wednesday, it’s full speed ahead until the end of the semester. For those of us in the Music Department, first up will be Founder’s Day. Seven of our best singers from Jazzuits Vocal Jazz Ensemble will be featured entertainment this year.
Brett and I will join Carol Jacobe and Bill DiCosimo, along with ace drummer Liz Strodel to back them up. It’s a hectic week, but we know we’ll be playing to a full house. The event is sold out.
An Arrow Shot Through Time - Our next film is coming along nicely. Last week, we shot interviews with Rex Lyons and his father, the great Faithkeeper Oren Lyons. It was magical. There will be more news about the film as we move into post-production, which will be done here in CNY. Irv Lyons will be joining Brett and me in the studio to work on post-scoring.
The Band - Holy Smokes! Our show with Two Wolf was a blast. We played a ninety-minute set of songs from the Early Years right up to the tunes we wrote for The Artist and the Astronaut. I love this band and can’t wait to get back in the studio with them. BTW, the movie is now streaming worldwide. It’s available on many platforms. Try Amazon. That is probably the easiest. The soundtrack album streams worldwide on December 12th. We’ll keep you posted. No more shows scheduled at the moment. I kinda already miss playing with the band and hanging with you folks.
Fall - We are getting ready for winter at the lake. Wasn’t it just summer? Anyway, I walked around the property and took photos of some of the sights at our Wildlife Habitat. (Below) The geese are amassing for the long flight South. We have a straggler. One lone goose who has yet to learn to fly. I hate to think about it, but we might have a boarder for the winter.
