Lake House - We have two families of geese with a total of 6 goslings, and a pair of ducks with 5 ducklings waddling around the beach and lawn. A pretty little muskrat has moved in under our dock. There’s a giant grey heron who stops by a few times a day to strut around the yard in the shallow water that still hasn’t receded yet this season. The beach is underwater. LIfe goes on.
It is peaceful here at Foxfield Woods. It belies what is going on around the globe. For those of us in a military family, the horrors of war are never far from our minds. My awesome Lt. Colonel son-in-law has just been deployed to the Middle East. His five-year-old son graduated from pre-school today. Heart warming and heartbreaking at the same time. Life goes on. We just pray more now.
Saturday is a big day for this old man. Two shows! Details here: https://www.toddhobin.com/news/2026/6/4/hobin-mini-tour-saturday
I miss the Todd Hobin Band of old terribly. I miss Doug SO much. Not having Shawn and Bruce by my side is a nostalgic tragedy. I know that taking the band off the road was the right thing to do. We all knew that we could not go on without Doug. He was a towering presence. I am so very fortunate that I was able to take my creative old bones into another spectacular direction. My training and degree is in music composition. Composing for films is a dream come true. But, I miss playing live. I miss the fans. I miss everything about creating songs, recording albums, and sharing this joy with everybody who wants to listen. The other thing that is gnawing at me and my family is knowing that if I don’t do it now, there may not be another tomorrow.
I am blessed with a killer band. At last night’s band rehearsal we discussed our repertoire. We have a bit of a dilemma. We can play anything. But, after clubbing through a few covers we dove into a couple hours of pure THB. Song after song just rolled along with power and finesse.
This is the band that will record the next album and be a large part of the next Soundtrack score for An Arrow Shot Through Time. They will be with me this Saturday at the Taste of Syracuse. Brett is still the anchor on bass. Steve Orlando, a longtime percussionist with us is singing great and laying down a solid groove. Mark Ballard has proven to be a wonderful addition. He plays both amazing guitar and keys, and he sings like a bird. I can’t say enough about Letizia. She’s a longtime friend and colleague. Since joining the band a few years ago, she’s added her angelic voice to all of my songs. It’s her voice that shines on the Artist and the Astronaut movie soundtrack. It is a pure joy to work with her, and she brings with her an army of fans.
And that is part of our dilemma. We can play anything. We prefer to play our songs. The band’s songs. And that band is, for lack of a better name, the Todd Hobin Band. Out in the real world, away from our home in CNY, we have always travelled under that moniker. This is hard for me, and it is hard for our families and dearest fans. The THB was that band way back when. Even though there were something like 20 different people in that band leading up to our hiatus, there was something about Doug and me at the center that is locked in their memories. That is what is lost forever. Fun fact, Doug and even me, did not play every show.
I don’t know, after avoiding with all of my might using the term “Band” attached to my name - isn’t it kind of futile? No joke, when I meet new people, the first words out of their mouth are “Todd Hobin Band.” As if that’s my name. Stop fighting, Todd.
Think about this. When we do a Letizia type gig, we’re Letizia with the Todd Hobin Band. When we do a THB gig, yup, we’re the THB.
See you on down the road.
