About Steeple Coffee House

‍ Twenty years ago, several UCF members conceived the idea to provide Central N.Y. musicians a venue for local audiences to enjoy music while also raising funds to serve the Fayetteville-Manlius community. From this idea, Steeple Coffee House was born. At SCH, you can hear CNY favorites and SAMMY award-winning artists playing a range of genres, including bluegrass, folk, jazz, and classic rock ’n’ roll.

‍ This is a listening room. You can dance and clap to your heart’s content. Please refrain from talking during the performance.

Remembering Isreal Hagan

A singer, guitarist, bassist, and composer, Isreal was well known for his solo performances and as the lead‍ singer with the R&B group Stroke. ‍

Born and raised in Syracuse, New York, Isreal Hagan’s musical influences were his parents, Sylvester & Bertha Hagan, who immersed him in music from birth. Isreal’s singing career started in third grade.‍‍ ‍

As a self-taught musician, he picked up his first guitar at age nine, followed soon after by the bass. At age 14, Isreal started his songwriting career.‍‍ ‍

Isreal Hagan was both an accomplished singer and songwriter and was known for his ability to engage and entertain an audience. A veteran of the Central New York Music Scene for over 30 years, he had the opportunity to share the stage with such luminaries as Robert Cray, B.B. King, Carlos Santana and Otis Day.

‍ ‍‍Isreal branched out in 1994 with his solo career. With his voice and acoustic guitar, Isreal entertained thousands in coffee houses and at special events throughout the region.

‍ ‍‍In 1997, expanding his musical experiences even further, Isreal became  a guest vocalist with the Mario DeSantis Orchestra singing big band standards.

‍ ‍‍‍‍Isreal appeared on local and national television and his records can still be heard on many radio stations throughout New York State.

‍ ‍‍This nine-time SAMMY Award Winner and Hall of Famer was featured as the Syracuse New Times cover story in February 1995 and the Post Standard’s  Weekend Cover Story in March 1999. The articles depicted him as the “outspoken defender of local music and R&B,” and “a man who charts out his own path to success.” Isreal had the honor of being flown out to California to perform with the legendary Carlos ‍Santana.

‍ ‍As lead singer of Stroke, his voice possessed an unforgettable tone. With his crystalline vocals and 4-octave range, Isreal Hagan had a voice like no other. Carlos Santana describes Isreal’s voice as “having Ghost Tones.”

Isreal’s nine SAMMY awards included:

‍ o Best R&B Group - 2001, ‍1997, 1993

‍ o Best R&B Vocalist - 1999, ‍1996, 1994, 1993

‍ o Best R&B Instrumentalist - 1997

‍ o Hall of Fame 2007

‍ ‍

You will be missed, Isreal
