What’s Up With Todd
Quick sketch of my face this morning.
JOURNAL 201212 – I have been remiss in communicating with everyone. Pain will do that to a person. What do they call it? Cocooning? Hiding in your cave? Not sure. At any rate, I do miss EVERYTHING from the “before times.” Mostly, the friendships and shared history. Many of us go back for decades. Although I know I am not the only one who feels this way, I do know that I owe it to all of you who are in my family of friends to let you know that I am OK.
No gigs. That’s a big change in my life. I miss that terribly. But, I have been keeping busy. Here are some of the projects I have been working on. But, before I jump into that, REMEMBER this is a two-way street. I would love to hear back from you. This shared history of ours is about all of us. Whether you are a diehard wonderful fan who soldiered through those early shows in tiny clubs in the backwoods of America and Canada... or a newbie, who just stumbled in because you heard a song you liked, write to me. I care. It’s personal. mailto:todd@toddhobin.com
So, here ya go. Stuff I have been doing.
My father was an opera singer. My mom, an artist. I learned both crafts at my parents' knees. When the door to my opera career was shut by the pandemic… (You know I do love opera. All music kinds of music. My last four gigs in the “before times” were: a solo cocktail party, a rip-roaring Rock concert, a swing gig with the college vocal jazz ensemble, and YES, a gig with the Syracuse Opera…) Anyway, when live gigs died, I turned to my other life… that of an artist.

I am also illustrating a children’s book series, the Old Doc Turtle Adventures. Here’s a link to an article:

Music is still a priority in my life and the studio gigs I’m getting are pretty awesome. The BIG news is a full-length documentary film feature, “The Artist and the Astronaut.” Hobin Studios is also doing the post-production audio! It’s HUGE. More here:

I will keep you posted on our progress.
My semester at Le Moyne College just wrapped. What started as a one-semester favor for a friend ten years ago has turned into another passion. Did I mention my dad was a music teacher too? Check this out. You will be as thrilled as I am with these student performances: https://www.toddhobin.com/journal/2020/12/12/todds-guitar-studio
I’ve also been working with some new artists. Please keep visiting the website. I will post new material as it is released. I also enjoy producing songs for some of my pals. Keep your eyes out for new songs from Irv Lyons, Jr. We’ve finished a couple of songs. More to follow. This is a fun project, which will include Joe Driscoll, Melanie Krahmer from the band Sirsy, and Grammy-winning artist, Joann Shenandoah. I also expect one more amazing artist... can’t mention her just yet. Stay tuned.
The audiobooks keep flying out the door. A new Christmas play, “The Shepherd’s Quest” is just released. And of course, Full Cast Audio continues to produce hugely successful books for the world, all produced right here at Hobin Studios: http://fullcastaudio.com/
One of our new projects is coming up on its thirteenth episode. Record Store Radio https://recordstoreradio.biz/ is the brainchild of Tom Honan. He interviews artists from all over America and the globe. It’s very interesting. Interspersed in the very intimate interviews you will hear clips from songs and shows. I actually get to engineer these episodes. It’s a lot of fun.
Writing songs for myself? It’s last on the list. But, I am still creating new works. The songs keep coming to me. So many stories to tell, including yours. Stay in touch.
I miss you.
Todd
