GEAR

We try not to act like gear heads.  All those numbers and specs.  Sure, when we're with our geek friends we get into it pretty good.  Lots of oo-ing and ah-ing about frequency response, latency, proximity effect, ogg vorbis, AIFF, DI, BS and other tech spec overload.  But frankly, good recording is a craft.  And good craftsman use the best tools they can get their hands on.  And that's what we do.  We buy, rent or borrow the best audio tools we can get.  And we constantly upgrade.  It's expensive, but that's our obsession, not your problem.  We've beta tested what seems like just about every new product out there, and we're real comfortable with our tools.

Basically it boils down to this.  Great mics:  We like the RODE product, so we have a lot of them, but we also have Sennheiser, Shure, Audio Technica, AKG, and a host of others.  Great pre-amps: TL Audio and DBX patched directly into the best A to D converters out there: Apogee!  Boom done.  Go direct to disk, do not pass go or traverse any other by way.  You're in the digital realm.  We use a bunch of great computers.  They're dual processor monsters that fly.  We were on the Beta test team for Samplitude at the dawn of digital, so we always upgrade to the most recent version.  (Actually, we started recording digitally even before then,  way back when Amiga was the best platform to use digital recording technology.)  Once we're in the computer, we edit, mix and master.

We believe in the sound of analog gear, so we've got lots of it.  Tubes rule! (12 AX7 & 6L6 for all you geeks.)

An LEDE designed room allows for perfect listening. What you hear is what you get. And you can work for hours of mixing with minimal fatigue. At the center of the control room sits our analog SoundTracs® MR series 32-input channel console. You'll listen through Hafler® power amps on Altec-Lansing® in-wall mounted monitors (far-field) or JBL® studio monitors mounted on removable floor stands (near-field).  We have nice headphone amplifiers and great cans.  The signal only touches the console and other devises as a monitor, so you can hear what you're doing.  Sure, it's all high quality stuff, but the actual signal flow is from your mouth to God's ear.  (mouth to mic to preamp to disc)  Trust us, it's better that way.

Now, if you want to talk tech with us and see a complete list of gear, we would be glad to do so.  But it is going to cost you a couple of beers.  Non-geeks excluded.
